Do you want to help end homelessness?

Do you want to end Homelessness? Senator Hatch does and he is leading the charge! Thank you, Senator Hatch!
There are 2 bills in Congress that will expand our Low Income Housing Tax Credit & will promote new affordable housing.
  • S. 548 The Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act of 2017 is sponsored by Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) and co-sponsored by Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT)
  • H.R. 1661 The Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act of 2017 is sponsored by Representative Pat Tiberi (R-OH) and Richard Neal (D-MA) and would also enact provisions to strengthen our most successful tool for encouraging private investments in the production and preservation of affordable rental housing
Utah currently needs at least 47,180 homes for low income families. Senior citizens are on a 6 to 9 month waiting list to obtain affordable senior housing.
These bills are critical: housing is as essential to our nation’s infrastructure as transportation, energy, and water systems. WHY?
1) They will strengthen President Reagan’s Tax Reform Act of 1986 which has been our most successful tool for encouraging private investment in the production and preservation of affordable rental housing
2) The Housing Credit is administered at the state level and only those developments that are most responsible to local housing priorities receive credits
3) Each year Housing Credit development supports nearly 100,000 jobs and adds roughly $3.5 billion in taxes & other revenues to local economies
4) More than 11 million low income households- roughly 1 in 4 renters spend over half their income on rent ( 30% of income is the targeted budgeted expense)
