For months you’ve been calling our elected officials asking them to push for common sense legislation to ensure a Trust Land Exchange of parcels locked within federal conservation areas. Congratulations, Utah — Representative Chris Stewart has heard the call!
On Tuesday it was announced that Rep. Chris Stewart is sponsoring the bipartisan Trust Land Exchange (ACE Act).
This exchange would mean school trust lands captured within Bears Ears, for instance, can be traded to areas more suitable for investment. That means those lands can earn more money for our schools! The returns from School Trust Lands directly benefit all of Utah’s public schools, which receive an equal portion of money from the trust each year. The last exchange from Grand Staircase is the largest contributor to the trust, with returns of over $300 million.
CALL TO ACTION
- Call Representative Stewart and thank him for proposing this important and reasonable policy.
- Ask our other U.S. representatives to support the bipartisan ACE Act to earn more money for Utah schools from School Trust Lands.
