Senate Republicans have been called out for rushing Trump’s cabinet nominees into their Senate hearings before the independent Office of Government Ethics can complete full reviews of the backgrounds and finances for conflicts of interest. Trump’s nominee for Secretary of Education, billionaire philanthropist Betsy DeVos had her hearing moved from last week to this week in response to an outcry about her incomplete vetting.
However, her vetting is still unfinished as she approaches her first confirmation hearing with the Senate HELP Committee tomorrow.
Just Friday the OGE uncovered a large campaign donation that DeVos failed to disclose in her statements to the OGE. Is there anything else still uncovered or undisclosed that the OGE, the Senate and the public should know about DeVos?
CALL TO ACTION
- Call on our Utah senators and the members of the Senate HELP Committee to demand full vetting of DeVos prior to her hearing. You can call and leave messages today or call first thing in the morning.
- Ask our Utah and Senate HELP Committee senators to oppose DeVos’ nomination as Secretary of Education based on her anti-public education stance, desire to defund public education in favor of private and religious schools, lack of experience and conservative activism around gay “conversion” therapy.
