Today the Congressional Budget Office will release a new score for the version of the American Health Care Act that passed in the House of Representatives. The stakes of this score are high. Previous estimates showed that over a decade Medicaid would be cut by $880 billion and the number of uninsured Americans would increase by 24 million, numbers that jarred Democrats and moderate Republicans. Though a bad score is unlikely to spur further action or a new vote in the House, any score will directly influence the Senate’s plan for health care.
A committee of 14 Senators is meeting regularly to write a new health care plan. If the CBO score for the AHCA shows improvement in uninsured numbers and meets a minimum deficit reduction of $2 billion, there is a small chance that the Senate could leave this egregious bill as is. Either way, today marks the beginning of another roller coaster ride on public health care, with essential care for America’s seniors, children, women, the disabled and low-income people hanging in the balance.
At least three Senate Republicans must oppose Trumpcare for the bill to fail in the Senate. Will you call key Republican senators to make sure they do the right thing?
CALL TO ACTION
- Use this calling tool from CREDO to get started making calls. You can make just one call or several to reach key Republicans and talk with their staffers about the importance of key aspects of the Affordable Care Act you don’t want to see repealed.
Because of high call volume, CREDO is pushing calls both to Washington and in-state offices, so you might get connected to the same senator twice. If you do, you can hit the star (*) key to move on to another call.
What you can say (please PERSONALIZE):
Hello, my name is [Name] and I’m calling to demand that Sen. X do everything in his/her power to block Trumpcare.
Trumpcare will [insert any number of complaints about the AHCA, such as “destroy Medicare and Medicaid and take health care away from people with pre-existing conditions”]. Tens of millions of Americans could lose their health coverage if the Senate advances Trumpcare.
I expect Sen. X to do the right thing and protect Americans from this deadly and reckless bill. Can I count on Sen. X to vote NO on Trumpcare?
