We called you to action, and you made an impact!
Yesterday we called on you to write letters to Sen. Allen Christensen (District 19-R) asking him to reconsider running his bill, SB 48: Medicaid Waiting Period Amendments. The senator had shown openness to hearing public opinion on the bill, which would have created a 5-year waiting period for legal immigrant children in Utah to receive health coverage from CHIP or Medicaid. The bill would have removed health coverage for 475 children immediately and bring no cost benefit to the state.
You heeded our call, and by yesterday afternoon, Sen. Christensen announced that he would no longer be running the bill. Good job, Utah! This was a win for community advocacy and a victory for Utah families!
Now it is time to give thanks. Please write a brief note of thanks to Sen. Christensen for listening to Utahns and changing his mind about SB 48. We appreciate his openness to public input and willingness to set aside the legislation.
Saying thanks to legislators is sometimes just as important as lobbying them and keeps them open to hearing public feedback like Sen. Christensen did yesterday. So please take 60 seconds to make a difference by writing your thanks today.
