No family should be taxed into poverty. That’s why Rep. John Westwood (R-Cedar City) is running a great bill, HB 57: Utah Intergenerational Poverty Work and Self-Sufficiency Tax Credit to strengthen Utah’s groundbreaking IGP initiative with a state Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) for IGP families who work, qualify for federal EITC and file their state taxes that supports progress toward financial stability and independence.
A state Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) would help Utah families keep more of what they earn so they can stay employed and meet their basic needs. In the 29 states that already have a state EITC program, the data shows that this extra financial help benefits working families by increasing work, reducing dependence on other social safety net programs and increasing self-sufficiency.
You may have weighed in on this bill when it was in the House, but now it needs your help passing in the Senate! Please take a moment to email your state Senator now and ask them to vote YES on 57!
