Don’t panic — this action is something anyone at any experience level can do from home or in person! Take a deep breath and read on.
Interim Sessions happen one day a month between May and November when our part-time state legislators gather at the State Capitol to discuss, debate and propose policy solutions for current issues facing Utah. Meetings are open to the public and are recorded for community members to listen to live or at any time after the meeting. The next Interim Session happens on August 15th. Check the State Legislative website’s Calendar for a list of meetings, locations and agendas.
Listening in on just one Interim Committee meeting can be enlightening to understand how matters are discussed, what presentations to legislators are like and what messages do and do not resonate with elected officials.
Our political system in Utah can seem complicated and inaccessible. Participating in Interim is a great way to shed light on the work our legislators do and how to impact it as a community member.
