5 Ways to learn how to make a difference on Capitol Hill

October 16th, 2018|Action of the Week|0 Comments

It’s Interim – come with Action Utah to the State Capitol!

Interim Sessions are some of our favorite days of the year — a great opportunity for community members to find out what issues our legislators are working on, what our political system looks like and how to make an impact. Action Utah invites you to check out the State Capitol with us or to venture up to the Hill on your own in person or online. Here are 5 things you can do to learn how our legislative branch works so you can make a difference on Capitol Hill. The best part is that it’s both fun and easy to be a part of Interim!

1. Join us TOMORROW for our Tour & Talk: Spotlight on Air Quality Advocacy

WHEN: 12:00-1:00p (bring a bag lunch and join us over lunch hour!)
WHERE: Beehive Room in the Senate (East) Building of the State Capitol
WHAT: Tour of the State Capitol with a spotlight discussion on air quality advocacy. Learn about good clean air bills coming up that could use your support!
RSVP: This event is free, but space is limited. RSVP here.

BONUS: Consider sitting in on an Interim Committee meeting before or after the Tour & Talk to witness our legislative branch in action. Our state legislators will be discussing issues like air quality, poverty, school safety, renewable energy, human trafficking, medical marijuana and teacher retention. Interim is an awesome time for community members to get engaged, and all meetings are open to the public! We make it easy for you to find out what’s happening where and when with our October Interim Action Guide.

2. Join us November 14th for our Tour & Talk: Spotlight on Poverty & Housing

Can’t make it tomorrow? Join us next month for our last Tour & Talk of the year!

WHEN: 12:00-1:00p (bring a bag lunch and join us over lunch hour!)
WHERE: Beehive Room in the Senate (East) Building of the State Capitol
WHAT: Tour of the State Capitol and spotlight discussion on what’s happening around poverty and housing in Utah, including what good bills are coming up and what YOU can do to help get them passed!

As always, we recommend people take the time to sit in on a public Interim Committee meeting before or after the Tour & Talk to see our legislators at work.

3. Go to Interim on your own!
