Public schools in Utah are required to be evaluated with a single letter grade based on student test scores. But this flawed system harms schools with inaccurate evaluations that impact enrollment, funding and teacher retention. A temporary moratorium has allowed schools to use a dashboard system with multiple indicators to evaluate schools more deeply, but the moratorium ends next year, and Utah must return to school grades.
HB 198 Education Accountability Amendments would remove the single school grade once and for all! This good bill passed in committee unanimously with strong support from the UEA, Utah School Board, Utah PTA, teachers and administrators.
