Mobile emissions make up 42% of the air pollution in Utah. Older vehicles (model year 2003 and older) are far dirtier than others, especially when they fail an emissions test. The Cleaner Car Bill (HB 295) by Rep. Jeff Stenquist (R-Draper) would help tackle emissions by encouraging the retirement and replacement of the dirtiest cars on the road in areas of Utah with the poorest air quality.
This good clean air bill will get a hearing in the Senate Transportation Committee soon!
Implementing HB 295’s Vehicle Emission Reduction (VER) program would provide vehicle replacement assistance to low income Utahns to help reduce air pollution.
