Suicide prevention is a policy priority at Action Utah, and a timely subject this month during Suicide Prevention Month. One important suicide prevention policy needs community support this month!
Last session Action Utah supported a bill to ban conversion therapy for minors (read more about HB 399 here) – an important bill that would have helped address high suicide rates for LGBT youth. A wide range of legislators and the Governor and Lt. Governor backed the bill, but it was badly weakened by amendments, and the sponsor was forced to abandon it.
The good news is that Governor Herbert has since taken action to implement the ban via regulation rather than legislation!
On September 26th, a public hearing will be held to allow to permit community feedback on the ban of conversion therapy for minors. Opponents of this measure are sure to attend the hearing and voice their loud opposition. Help ensure the successful implementation of this important rule by attending and adding your voice in support of the ban on conversion therapy!
