Morgan County is governed by a seven member elected body one council member from each of the five districts and two council members at large. Each council member is responsible for certain issues/departments.

Valuation of property is an important part of the tax process.
The office has the responsibility to appear and prosecute for the county and state in all criminal prosecutions, assist crime victims and protect victim rights, and advise and assist law enforcement. Further, the office is to appear and defend the county in all civil cases, advise county officials and boards, assist in developing and enforcing county policies, prepare county ordinances, assist in contract negotiations, represent the county and state in mental health proceedings, and enforce compliance with the open meetings act.
The County Recorders Office maintains all land records for Morgan County and reference indexes to these records. The Recorder’s Office is also required to maintain plat maps which show the current ownership of every tract of land in the entire county for public inspection. Copies of land records and/or plat maps may be purchased in our office. The Morgan County Recorders office serves also a depository for survey plats which are required to be filed with the County Surveyor.
