Gain invaluable experience working on the front lines of policy and advocacy initiatives that support the issues Utahns care about most and promote civic engagement to meaningfully impact those issues. Responsibilities may include research and analysis, writing, initiative strategy and development, lobbying, resource and tool creation, outreach campaigns, assistance with events, content generation, reports and policy briefs and meetings with elected officials and advocacy partners. Interns will come away with real-world experience and an insider’s perspective into our political and advocacy systems, as well as a solid foundation in Action Utah’s nonpartisan, bridge building philosophy and advocacy tools that make an impact.

A NOTE ABOUT WINTER TERM INTERNSHIPS: All policy and advocacy internships during the Winter Term (January – May) will be legislative internships focused on Action Utah’s advocacy and educational work at the Utah State Capitol informing and mobilizing civic engagement during the annual State Legislative Session.

A NOTE ABOUT POLICY & ADVOCACY FELLOWSHIPS: A limited number of fellowships are offered to graduate students seeking to fulfill practicum or capstone requirements toward degrees in public policy, public administration, public health, environmental advocacy or other related field. Fellowships require a commitment of two school terms or up to one year. 

Requirements for applicants:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Research ability
  • Self-motivated, hard worker
  • Familiarity with G Suite 
  • Minimum education: enrollment in sophomore year of high school or equivalent
  • A minimum commitment of 10 hours per week for at least 3 months
